The Rambling Quilter Newsletter February 2025

February is known as the month for Valentineโ€™s Day and Presidents Day. Itโ€™s the shortest month of the year, and a month where many of us are planning our summer vacations.

If youโ€™re into history and in honor of Presidents Day, I have some places you should put on your travel list.

Dallas is home to the famous Dallas Book Depository Museum detailing the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. It is also the home of President George W. Bushโ€™s Presidential Center. We spent time in Dallas and were able to visit both historic sites.

While in the Dallas area, plan a visit to the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park. Known as President Johnsonโ€™s Texas White House, this park includes his boyhood home, ranch where he lived before and after he was president, his Air Force 1, and more. Take your bikes for a nice ride around the property.

Spend a couple of days in Springfield, Illinois and immerse yourself in the life on Abraham Lincoln before he became our 16th President. Along with his home, a short walk takes you to his presidential library and museum. Drive a few miles away to his final resting place.

Sloppy Joe Soup

Who doesnโ€™t love a hearty soup after a day of sightseeing. This recipe can easily be doubled to have enough to freeze for later. This recipe from Recipesthatcrock.com is delicious!

  • 1ย lbย ground beefย browned and drained
  • 15 oz can Manwich
  • 10.75 oz can minestrone soup
  • 15 oz can light red kidney beans
  • 15 oz can dark red kidney beans
  • 15ย ozย can diced tomatoes
  • garlic powderย to taste

Put everything in the crockpot and cook on low for 4-6 hours or high for 2-3.

This may be the shortest month of the year, but it sure is a busy one! Weโ€™ll be finishing up Carlsbad, then on to Alamogordo and Elephant Butte, New Mexico. Then weโ€™re spending time in Bisbee, Tucson, and Yuma, Arizona before beginning our exciting Fantasy RV Tour to Baja California, Mexico. Busy but exciting!

Wonder why our Mission Statement is Donโ€™t Wait to Enhance, Change or Save Your Life?

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 while we were living our best life. The path I chose allowed us to get back on the road in October 2023.

Breast cancer was just a pothole in our RV travel road and has allowed me to tell my story to others with the hope of saving others through early detection.

We hope youโ€™re making memories and living your best life!

  1. Thanks for the tip about staying in Grapevine and taking the transit. We visit Dallas often but haven’t visited the presidential sites (Covid and too hot this past time). Also, we volunteered for two months at LBJ National HIstorical Park – what a great place. Thanks for your post!
