Ouray, Colorado – The Switzerland of America

When you think of Switzerland, snow-capped mountains with quaint little towns below come to mind. That is just what you get when you travel south on Highway 550 from Montrose, Colorado, to the small town of Ouray. Located on the famous Million Dollar Highway between Montrose and Silverton, Ouray is also known for hiking, mountain biking, and jeeping.

We spent the month of May at Ouray Riverside Resort in a site that backed to the Uncompagrhe River with amazing views of the surrounding mountains.

We were even treated to an impromptu snowstorm that completed obstructed our view of the mountain range.

From our campground, it was a short walk into town where we enjoyed the Ouray Brewery Rooftop Beer Garden,

coffee and ice cream at Mouse’s Chocolate & Coffee while enjoying views of Cascade Falls,

and drinks and dessert at Red Mountain Brewing with views of the south end of Ouray.

We even had a few friends greet us when we arrived!

While it was very easy to get caught up with looking at the beautiful scenery surrounding Ouray, the town itself is loaded with history and charm.

As for Ouray Riverside Resort – we highly recommend it! Jason and his staff do a phenomenal job of creating a relaxing atmosphere, and they are all very knowledgeable about the area and all there is to do and see.

We highly recommend you add a trip to Ouray, Colorado, to your vacation bucket list.

Join us next week as we hike and explore the area around Ouray.
