This week we began moving south along the Canada/Alaska border.
Day 45-46 – Travel Days
Day 45 – Tok, Alaska

We left Fairbanks and drove 201 miles to Tok, Alaska. This was an overnight stop, and since weโd already been to Tok, there wasnโt much to do except laundry. Well, except one minor repair! Nothing major, but seeing the toilet in the hallway is always a bit unnerving!
Day 46 – Destruction Bay, Yukon
We left Tok and drove 224 miles to Destruction Bay. The trip was supposed to take 6 hours, but due to construction and an hour-long wait at the border, it took us over 8 hours.
Here are some of the road signs we saw along the way. As you can see by the pictures, we had a lot of patches of gravel mixed with a little bit of pavement. The frost heaves are really doing a number of the pavement.

We were also entertained by the ravens while we sat at the border crossing. It took over an hour to cross back into Canada.

This was also a travel day, and by the time we got there, it was time to have a late dinner and get ready for our next travel day.
Day 47-49 Haines, Alaska
Day 47 – We drove 201 miles from Destruction Bay to Haines, Alaska. The day had much better road conditions, and the scenery was amazing. We stayed at Haines Hitch Up RV Park which was not too far from the town.

Before dinner we drove over to see if we could spot any bears feasting on salmon, but we had no luck. We headed back toward town and got a few pictures of the harbor and cruise ship that was docked there. We saw this cruise ship again when we got to Juneau the next day along with two other larger ships.

Day 48 – We took a boat ride from Haines to Juneau. Juneau is definitely a tourist trap with the cruise ships docking there. Along the way we saw another glacier and a lighthouse.

The best part of the trip for us was whale watching and we werenโt disappointed! On the way back from Juneau, we came upon these whales bubble feeding! The captain said itโs rare to see this and we saw them do this several times. I was also fortunate to get one of the whales breaching the surface! This is really rare. In fact, the captain asked me to send him this video.
Day 49 Skagway. We took the Fast Ferry from Haines to Skagway. It was a nice 45-minute ride on the Lynn Canal.
We spent about an hour getting something to eat and looking at the shops before it was time to board the White Pass & Yukon Train. We traveled 2,888 feet in elevation to the White Pass Summit. This was where minors would be traveling during the Klondike Gold Rush.

After the train ride, we had more time to shop before boarding the Fast Ferry back to Haines.
As you can see, we had another amazing week our tour. We have one week to go!
