10 Things to do When Visiting a City or Town

Whenever we get to a new location, we find ourselves making a list of things we want to do and see in that area. We may not do each one in every city, but here are ten things we like to do.

1. Check out the local cuisine. Every city or town has that one place where everyone says you must dine. Skip the chains and check it out.

We visited Charles Vergos’ for delicious BBQ in Memphis.

2. Find that biking or exercise trail. We always try to find a good trail that goes through the scenic part of a location.

We found this great trail in Mesa, Arizona that goes between 2 spring training facilities.

3. Visit the local historical museum. We love finding out the history of a location by visiting their museum. We always learn an interesting fact that we didn’t know beforehand.

Mesa Historical Museum was full of baseball history since Mesa is home to the MLB Spring Training Cactus League.

4. Walk the downtown area. Many cities and towns are now making it very easy to walk the downtown area. Many have artwork displayed on the walls, and art pieces scattered around.

Downtown Las Cruces is full of amazing artwork, studios, and galleries.

5. Tour a sports stadium. This one definitely pertains to the larger cities. We’ve toured At&T Stadium in Dallas, SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles, and the Rose Bowl in Pasadena. The stadium website is the best place to find out about tours.

When in LA, a trip to tour SoFi is a must.

6. Attend a sporting event. Even smaller locations have a local team that might just be playing while you’re there.

Columbus, Ohio, is home to the Clippers minor league team. A fun place to take in a game and spend time with family and friends.

7. Visit the breweries and/or wineries in the area. It seems that every city or town is now home to some great drinking establishments, and they are all locally owned.

12 West Brewing Co. in Mesa, AZ, has a full bar menu and flights of both beer and cocktails.

8. Shop the local establishments. Venture away from those national chains and support a local business.

Sweet Shenanigans Cupcakery in Intercourse, PA, has delicious cupcakes in a variety of flavors – all made fresh daily.

9. Go to the theater. Many places have theaters featuring live productions. If you’re into this, be sure to check them out.

10. Take a walking tour. Many cities have walking tours, both self-guided and with a tour guide, and even ghost tours if you’re into that. The internet is a great place to find out how to schedule one.

Charleston, SC has several walking tours and ghost tours.

As you can see, there is so much to do as you travel the country. As much as we like to explore the beautiful scenery, there is also a lot to explore in the cities and towns.
